Discover Westin Cooker Hoods at HMK

Westin is the cooker hood specialist bringing fresh air from Yorkshire since 1921. While much has evolved since then, Westin remains steadfast in harnessing local talent to produce exquisite products with unwavering pride, coupled with a personalised approach to customer service.

The Westin cooker hood is a kitchen appliance designed to remove airborne grease, fumes, smoke and odours that are produced during cooking. They offer innovative and stylish ventilation solutions for modern kitchens.

We are proud to be an official retail partner for Westin Cooker Hoods which are British-made. The perfect hood will be selected for you that will work ideally in harmony with the most important factors, how you like to cook and how you plan to use the kitchen.

Above is our project in Chalfont St Giles that features a gorgeous cooking station consisting of a Wolf Sealed Burner Range Top and a Westin Prime Extractor. These premium appliances not only meet the expectations of enthusiastic chefs but also flawlessly enhance the industrial-inspired design of the space. Their polished stainless steel finish introduces a modern element, elevating the kitchen’s aesthetic appeal and functionality.

History of Westin

Walter Westin was the face behind the name. In 1921, Walter Westin established his electrical contracting business following his service as a merchant seaman during World War I. Shortly afterwards, Walter was joined by his two sons Derek and Cyril, who eventually joined the company, contributing significantly to its growth and evolution.

Over time, Derek took charge of admin and accounting tasks, while Cyril emerged as a visionary and idea generator for the business. A pivotal moment for Westin occurred when Walter, recognised his sons’ inventive talents, gifting Cyril a welding kit. This gesture sparked Cyril’s imagination, leading him to identify commercial applications for this technology.

From the late 1940s to the late 1970s

Westin maintained its roots as an electrical repairs business while emerging as a dominant force in fireplace surrounds and canopies. Every piece, crafted from copper, brass, or stainless steel, was meticulously handmade by a skilled workforce.

The company’s ethos is centred on perfection, fostering a deep sense of pride among its workforce in the craftsmanship involved in production. Before leaving the premises, each fire surround and hood had to meet the highest standards worthy of the Westin name.

During the 1960s, Walter Westin ‘retired’ due to declining health, passing the reins to the capable hands of his two sons.

In the late 1970s, the electric cooker was on the rise. As Westin managed the Fire Surrounds division of the business and continued to thrive in electrical repairs under Westin Drives Limited, a logical evolution for Fire Surrounds was to integrate filters and a motor, pivoting towards the kitchen industry.

The 1990s and the future

During the 1990s, the market experienced a gradual decline; however, new opportunities emerged with the growing demand for domestic range cookers and their specialised extraction requirements.

In 1994, Cyril and Derek retired, and the business, along with Phoenix Mills home, was acquired by local businessman John Eastwood, who had longstanding ties with the company. Bringing on board his close friend to become managing director, the friends propelled the company further into the expanding market for range cookers and larger domestic extraction systems.

Recognising the potential, the company embarked on a continuous investment journey over the years, improving both the premises and machinery.

Today, Westin stands as a leader in kitchen extraction in the UK, collaborating regularly with prominent names in the kitchen design and interior sector. Their commitment to developing new products, harnessing innovative technologies, and nurturing the team remains as strong now as it has ever been.
