The island is on many homeowners’ kitchen wish lists, they are always mentioned when it comes to planning the kitchen design. The island is a popular choice due to it being a place where lots of options can be added, and you can make it the feature in the hub of the home by opting for an alternative colour to the rest of the cabinetry.
Will your island be focused on entertaining? Will it be the main cooking hub? A truly bespoke design has endless possibilities and we portray this through each and every one of our projects.
We have hand-painted many kitchen islands in a darker hue and lighter cabinets surrounding them. Below we take a look at a few of these in our projects across the country and how they have become the focal attraction of the room.
The project in Elsenham, Essex had a brief of an olive colour being the main focal tone and a greige for the surrounding cabinets, they didn’t want the usual ‘blue’ or ‘grey’. In this property found within a quaint little village, a complete transformation happened at the back where a stunning open-plan kitchen was built. The island was designed in the middle with our traditional shaker and hand-painted in Olive Colour by Little Greene.
The island measures 3m where it meets all aspects of entertaining and plenty of storage for the kitchen essentials.
Set amongst acres of land and within a five-bedroom home, in Woldingham, Surrey we find ourselves in the main room, with a traditional shaker island taking centre stage. We hand-painted the island in Onyx by Benjamin Moore – a dark black with little or no undertones. It’s a great paint colour for a dramatic centrepiece.
The island is uniquely shaped adorned with Polaris White Quartzite, a home for an additional sink area, seating around one edge and plenty of storage.
The island in this kitchen layout in Stock, Essex acts as a divider in the grand space, separating the main kitchen from the living space. We hand-painted it in Card Room Green by Farrow & Ball – a masculine grey-green, it looks perfect combined with the lighter hue of Slipper Satin, also by Farrow & Ball.
Six seats flow elegantly around the overhang of the island, where nibbles can be tasted and drinks sipped on a perfect evening with friends and family. Big in size and a great place to prep those special dinners. We even incorporated a wine cooler, lots of storage, a dishwasher and bespoke chopping boards.
Set in the idyllic countryside of Bishop’s Stortford we find a wonderful mix of materials and colours in this property where the island has been hand-painted in Brinjal by Farrow & Ball – a gorgeous aubergine colour that instantly hits the light.
The kitchen island is the home for the Wolf Undercounter Wine Storage, which is the perfect addition to the bar area, which sits adjacent to the island. We love the shape too, as it curves around on the other side being the perfect place for a few stools to perch on.
An individual style and a first of its kind for this client in Mapesbury, London. The idea was to create a feature wall of furniture and an island in the middle which would include the largest possible size from a single piece of Quartzite – Bianca Eclipsia. The style is a mix of traditional and contemporary with traditional mouldings and handleless doors.
We hand-painted the island in a dark grey – Down Pipe by Farrow & Ball, a daringly dark hue and the perfect choice for the luxurious finish in this hub of the home.
A fairytale home is seen here in Hatfield Broad Oak that elevates functionality, style and design throughout our bespoke classic shaker furniture. The layout of the furniture tells a beautiful story of how this family opened up their space to incorporate their personality throughout, opting for a gorgeous combination of colours and the island giving off a dramatic look. We hand-painted this in Basalt by Little Greene – a timeless blue-black.
The island was built around an existing wall and features plenty of storage, a wine cooler, additional worktop space, an additional sink area and the perfect place for the induction hob.
The large island in this Hadley Wood project is completed with oodles of storage, a spacious seating area for 6 guests and a secondary sink. It has been hand-painted in a darker hue for a calm and relaxing atmosphere – Juniper Ash by Little Greene. What a gorgeous large open-plan space that is fitting for this family.
Down Pipe by Farrow & Ball is seen here on the island in the Upminster project. The space has been utilised efficiently with the perfect kitchen layout and an island to divide the areas into different zones. We are loving all the wooden elements in this Scandi style.
This traditional design in Winchmore Hill has been pushed to the limit and mixed up with two different styles for character and a bespoke finish. The central island boasts more than just extra space. Plush velvet bar stools glide around a circular rounded breakfast bar that is attached to the main island. It acts as the perfect divider in the open-plan space and is hand-painted in Plummett by Farrow & Ball – a lighter lead colour with strong architectural characteristics.
