How HMK Can Design You the Perfect Dressing Room

At The Handmade Kitchen Company, we are used to bringing these kinds of bespoke spaces to life with the care, craftsmanship and design precision we’re known for in our kitchens. Every room in the home can be beautifully curated with handmade furniture to bring style and enduring durability, and that’s why we can deliver the perfect dressing room. Being invited into our clients’ homes to carry out projects in other parts over the years has added to our skill and portfolio, and something rewarding has been the dressing rooms.

Few rooms in the home feel as indulgent and personal as a dressing room. This dedicated space can be designed as a boutique-inspired walk-in wardrobe, a luxurious space off the master bedroom, or a cleverly crafted part of a spa-like bathroom.

A bespoke dressing room is all about you and how you want the space to function. It’s the perfect room in the home to reflect who you are. In this blog, we talk about our different designs, how they have worked in our clients’ homes and how our truly bespoke approach delivers you a dressing room that is functional and more beautiful than you could imagine.

The Bespoke Dressing Room at a Glance

A bespoke dressing room from The Handmade Kitchen Company is handcrafted in our workshop from solid oak or walnut, in our classic in-frame, traditional shaker or Mapesbury handleless styles, and hand-painted in the colour of your choice. It is designed entirely around your wardrobe and daily routine, with bespoke hanging space, drawers, shoe storage, jewellery inserts, integrated lighting and mirrors, and the option of a boutique-style central island. It can sit in a walk-in wardrobe, off the master bedroom, or as part of a spa-like bathroom.

Designed for You and Your Personal Dressing Space

Our designs are built uniquely every time, and that’s exactly how we like it. You will never find two dressing rooms the same! It’s exactly what makes our designs unique, personal and truly bespoke.

Our design process begins with a personal meeting to understand how you live, what you wear, and what makes your day flow effortlessly. This is at the centre of the dressing room design because then, we can plan the layout around it and what works for you. Whether it’s double-height hanging space for long dresses, built-in drawers for accessories, open shelving to display antique handbags, or a beautifully lit dressing table, every element in the dressing room is designed and built to your lifestyle. It’s your space and dream, and we make it reality.

Do you have a growing collection of shoes? Our shelving allows for expansion. Is an island on your wishlist for that boutique feel? We can incorporate it into the design with a comfy spot to sit while taking those heels off.

Our goal is to plan and design a layout that accommodates every need. Even the velvet-lined jewellery drawers, the handcrafted shoe storage racks, and the plush furnishing represent you and your style.

The Handmade Kitchen Company’s Signature Touch

There’s one element that sets our dressing rooms apart, and it’s the same thing that sets our kitchen apart: our handmade quality. Every element of the build is handcrafted in our workshop by our skilled artisans using the finest materials and traditional joinery techniques.

Our handmade cabinetry is made from solid oak in a variety of styles, from our classic in-frame to our traditional shaker, and more recently, our Mapesbury handleless design. Each section is hand-painted in your chosen colour, and the hardware and finishes are carefully selected from reputable brands.

A dressing room from The Handmade Kitchen Company is not just about storage, it’s a space built to make everyday moments feel luxurious. You may like the classic feel of the oak interior or the dark, luxurious vibe of walnut.

Our Attention to Detail, Always

The dressing room is known for being one of the most personal areas of your home. A well-designed dressing room features elements that aren’t always on show, but you certainly feel. They can be anything from cutlery-style inserts for jewellery, watches and gadgets to velvet-lined drawers, pull-out trouser rails, and integrated laundry solutions. Is there an idea you have? Our team thinks through every element so your space becomes a refined and organised dressing room. They also help you choose your colour palette, hardware, layout and the important role of lighting.

As mentioned, lighting plays a huge role in the space. We can integrate subtle strip lighting into the interiors of the hanging areas, in glass-fronted display cabinets, and beneath shelving to highlight features, but without overwhelming the overall space. Choose from showstopping full-length or concealed mirrors hidden in the interiors of the wardrobes and dressing table mirrors built into the furniture.

Love a boutique-styled dressing room that reminds us of a Boulevard in Beverly Hills? We can incorporate a central island with glass-topped drawers and a plush seat for a true moment of calm. For a more sleek and minimal approach, our concealed storage will keep the layout looking streamlined. Whatever your vision, our team will bring it to life with our signature blend of creativity and craftsmanship.

Bespoke Dressing Room FAQs

What is a bespoke dressing room?

A bespoke dressing room is a dedicated space, handcrafted and designed entirely around your wardrobe and routine rather than assembled from standard units. Every element, from the hanging space to the drawers, shoe storage and lighting, is built to measure for the room and the way you use it.

What should a dressing room include?

The most useful elements are double-height hanging for long garments, drawers and velvet-lined jewellery inserts, shoe storage that allows for expansion, integrated lighting in the hanging areas and shelving, full-length or concealed mirrors, and somewhere to sit. A central island with glass-topped drawers adds a boutique feel.

Where can a dressing room be located?

A dressing room can be designed as a walk-in wardrobe, as a luxurious space off the master bedroom, or as a cleverly crafted part of a spa-like bathroom. Because every design is bespoke, we work with the room you have.

What materials do you use for dressing rooms?

Our dressing rooms are handcrafted from solid oak or walnut, in our classic in-frame, traditional shaker or Mapesbury handleless styles, and hand-painted in the colour of your choice, with hardware selected from reputable brands.
