Incorporating old and new in a shaker kitchen is a great design choice. The beauty of choosing a shaker style kitchen allows you to let it be anything you want it to be. The classic design it is made up of, lends itself to any style of kitchen theme, whether it be modern or traditional.
Whether you opt for a more traditional style with warm, rustic wooden features, glossy white tiles and brass hardware, or a more modern shaker with touches of industrial-inspired features and a minimalistic design, both will produce you with the ultimate hub of the home for you and your family.
The Mapesbury project below is the perfect example of mixing old and new within a handmade shaker kitchen. Our client requested a one of a kind from us with traditional style mouldings and contemporary handleless doors. The property features high-ceilings with a large open-plan space that fits a modern seethrough table at one end and a very large central island. A luxury Quartzite was chosen to complete the worktops with the island piece being the largest possible size in a single piece.
A gorgeous chandelier takes centre stage providing the home with a true antique and decorative piece.
Our handmade shaker kitchen styles
The Classic Shaker
Our classic shaker is beautifully crafted with an in-frame shaker style. A Georgian style beaded front frame creates the look with recessed panel doors and an in-line or recessed plinth to choose from. This kitchen is designed and traditionally crafted specifically for your requirements; all hand-painted in a durable paint colour of your choice.
It’s designed specifically to meet the requirements of someone looking for a traditional shaker style but fused with elements of both contemporary and traditional details.
Choose from a ceramic farmhouse/ butler style sink or a stainless steel under-mounted style, add a maintenance-free quartz or a natural solid wood top and finish with your choice of colour.
The Cuffley kitchen combines modern and traditional together to elevate a design that is really spectacular. The cabinets are our classic shaker hand-painted in Pointing by Farrow & Ball and the kitchen appliances are the award-winning Sub-Zero Wolf (all in a stainless steel finish). Despite being the smallest hub of the home featuring Sub-Zero Wolf appliances that we have produced, this just goes to show how exactly these amazing appliances can be incorporated into any size or shape of kitchen.
The tiles are a classic creamy colour and the bar stools are a modern industrial style completed with a luxurious quartz worktop.
The Traditional Shaker
Our traditional shaker has quite an obvious feature to it which is the substantial and chunky 50mm front frame; which gives the furniture a farmhouse appearance. The vertical front frame extends down to the floor giving a unique free-standing appearance of individual pieces of furniture.
It’s designed and traditionally crafted specifically for your requirements, making it a highly customisable kitchen with many options designed to suit your lifestyle that blend form and function.
The Billericay project was built within a new-build property with stunning attention to detail and very high-end finishes. The traditional style furniture was chosen for its divine luxury raised and fielded door panels, sitting within a frame on the cabinet.
The island was completely bespoke and a first for us, it features a number of angles to the back and sides, met with a fabulous quartz worktop fitting the shape perfectly.
The Modern Shaker
Our modern shaker comes complete with a substantial external skirting/plinth, which fuses the kitchen into the walls of the house and makes it feel as one. Multi-panelling completes each door and the door panels are set twice as deep as our standard doors, once again giving a very substantial look.
It’s a combination of contemporary design elements and traditional crafts. This particular kitchen is designed specifically for your requirements with everything being made-to-order.
The Bishop’s Stortford kitchen is a place where old and new is embodied perfectly. Wooden elements are portrayed throughout the design with added aged brass hardware and antique style lights all within a gorgeous modern shaker style. This compact space has been fully maximised with oodles of storage from the floor-to-ceiling run of cabinets. A modern Smeg fridge freezer was designed to sit within the cabinets and the classic Black Blue by Farrow & Ball was hand-painted onto part of the kitchen.
