A kitchen island is on every kitchen wish list due to what they have to offer – functionality and design. The island provides a statement in the hub of the home, where extra space, storage and seating is added making the perfect multi-functional space for all the family. They are also great to form a divider between the cooking zone and living/dining areas in an open-plan space.
This type of kitchen furniture can be all shapes and sizes. They can be built long and slim running parallel to the main kitchen run in a galley-style layout, neat and round in a smaller space or built on a much large scale to house the sink and other appliances such as a hob and downdraft extractor or built-in microwave.
Unfortunately, not all kitchens are built to the size where a fixed island is possible. To offer more solutions of an island to our clients where they could still create their dream kitchen within any sized space they had, we came up with the design of a portable island – instantly accessible and something that would perfectly fit underneath the worktops and units for a clean and sleek look.
Our client in Chigwell required extra worktop space but a fixed island was not possible due to the shape and size of their home. A portable work surface was the best option for providing our client with a table that can be positioned wherever they want within their available space. It’s a wonderful extra feature that positions itself neatly underneath the worktops on the shorter length of the L-shaped when not in use.
The size of this portable island is perfect for the foot traffic around it when used anywhere in the kitchen. It is made from solid wood which gives our client durability and a long-lasting finish with chrome wheels to complete the look and match the other fixtures and fittings in the space.
It has been hand-painted in Strong White by Farrow & Ball which is what the main kitchen has been painted in and the top is the same quartz material as the worktops.
With it being a truly bespoke design you can choose from a solid wooden top, a quartz or a granite.
This is a great shot of the portable island entering the available space between the different areas of the kitchen. It shows you just how much space is accessible around it and the functionality it provides our client.
