Traditional Raised Panel Shaker 93 – Colchester
Embarking on a period renovation journey demands determination and vision.
Welcome to this beautifully renovated home in one of the first major cities in Roman Britain, Colchester. We had the pleasure of completing three rooms in this period property – the kitchen, the utility and a luxurious dressing room.
Our client’s brief was to design a home that really gave the wow factor. They wanted to take on an awe-inspiring challenge that would breathe new life into their architectural gem and provide them with three luxurious rooms to live in. This extensive restoration project would soon include a stunning “Handmade Kitchen Company” Traditional Shaker kitchen at its heart, a utility room that would flow from the main room and a relaxing dressing room to get ready in.
It first started when our clients booked a showroom appointment and came with a vision and plenty of inspiration from creative mood boards. They wanted to create the perfect balance between traditional and modern throughout their home. Seeing this from plenty of our projects and knowledge from our designer, the lovely couple knew they had found the perfect partner to bring their dream home to life. Our Traditional raised panel cabinetry was the perfect fit for all three rooms.
Starting with the kitchen, this space was designed to flow with the original beam and woodwork on show and create storage solutions for the whole family and home. The layout is a simple galley where the island becomes a focal point and divides the open-plan space. Another clever design concept that our client thought of was the different types of flooring separated with a gold door trim.
All cabinets are hand-painted in Worsted by Farrow & Ball. Worsted is a rich grey that conjures memories of city suits made from flat woven fabric. There’s an understated richness within that contains no cold tones, making it the perfect background to make clean accent colours pop.
This great-sized kitchen is full of innovative appliances starting with an American fridge/freezer from Fisher & Paykel. This setup stands within its own cabinetry where the Neff ovens sit and forms a great ‘kitchen triangle’.
The design combines the best of both worlds, where modern appliances are thoughtfully integrated around the room, providing optimal functionality without compromising the traditional aesthetic.
To add to the choice of appliances and innovative features a Neff Induction Hob with integrated ventilation system was designed on top of the kitchen island.
Along the sink cabinetry run is where you will find a mQuvée WineCave built-in wine cooler. The choice of Anthracite Black is the perfect match to complement the other appliances.
No kitchen is complete without a Shaws of Darwen sink. The iconic handcrafted fireclay sink is a nod to the shaker kitchen’s heritage as well as the style of this kitchen. Positioned underneath large skylights and open shelving, not only adds to the kitchen’s charm but also offers practicality and a modern touch with the addition of a Quooker PRO3 Fusion Square in Stainless Steel.
Bring this area to life with greenery from healthy plants and beautiful flowers.
Along this cabinetry run, there is also a day pantry that adds to the kitchen’s function built with bi-fold doors.
Stand-out areas include a bespoke storage bench with hooks above to offer a welcoming spot to take off your coat and shoes before being welcomed into this beautiful home. Meticulously designed, the bench seat seamlessly integrates with the rest of the furniture.
Interplaying between our timeless traditional shaker and dark grey paint, Calacatta Gold worktops provide the space with hard-wearing quartz surfaces and a design that replicates marble with a hint of gold.
On the surface of the kitchen island is a Kaelo Wine Cooler in Polished Stainless Steel. The Kaelo keeps your wine at its opening temperature so that every glass, of every bottle, is perfectly chilled. Amongst the solid structure of the island, a bespoke serving tray and three different-sized chopping boards add to the functionality of the island’s purpose.
A purposeful design is how this utility elevates the heart of the home. This bespoke solution seamlessly integrates with the rest of the style of property making our traditional raised panel the star of the show and the place to be completing those unattractive chores.
It includes a Franke Kubus sink in white complemented with a Perrin & Rowe Juliet Monobloc “U-Spout” mixer, in a Pewter finish. The cabinets are complete with Armac Martin Sparkbrook handles in their Satin Brass finish and the hardwearing surface is a quartz worktop known as Calacatta Gold just like the kitchen.
There’s plenty of storage space for detergents, laundry baskets and more.
We believe every corner in your home deserves the touch of exquisite craftsmanship and that is why we design utility rooms that beautifully coexist with the kitchen.
Completing the home with one of our bespoke dressing rooms, this particular one is filled with personalised luxury that seamlessly merges with the practical essence of organisational efficiency.
Designed within the original structure of exposed beams and high vaulted ceilings sits our traditional shaker, fitted around the room in a curve consisting of open wardrobes and shelves, soft close drawers and mirrored cabinets.
We continued the rich grey colour and satin brass handles through to this room.
Our client also had a vision of making the space comfy and added a sleek plush grey pouffe to the centre of the room.
