Nestled in a lovely location just north of Chelmsford, this country home was destined for a bespoke handmade kitchen at its heart. Working with our clients and the existing space, we produced a design that would marry the earthy tones, large windows and beautiful sunlight.
The real emphasis was put not only on the practicality of the kitchen layout but the symmetry, clean lines and flow of the design. It has made the family use their kitchen different from their previous one, as cabinetry has been intelligently designed so that primary tasks can be carried out efficiently between the sink area, oven and refrigerator. Each of the working zones has helped the space flow and function naturally, enabling the family to perform daily tasks with ease.
Sitting in the middle of the L-shaped layout is a carefully proportioned island acting as the central social hub. It looks out on to the beautiful surroundings and its shape was designed to best complement the layout. It comes with deep drawers, bespoke cutlery inlays, spacious cupboards, seating for two and adequate worktop space.
With a universal appeal and beautiful proportions that are balanced out focusing on symmetry and simplicity, the two colours achieve a balance between traditional and new.
The two colours chosen are both from Little Greene and have an earthy appeal. Travertine is hand-painted onto the main run of cabinetry, appliance furniture and the breakfast pantry. It is a warm neutral paint colour. We then have Hopper hand-painted onto the island – a bold green that is admired for the way it matches the colour of the leaves in the garden when the sun shines through them.
Both colours soak up that beautiful sunshine and add personality and character to the space.
Finishing off the look is the Vanilla Ice Quartz, further reflecting natural light around the room. This worktop has a lot of depth to it, with its beautiful flow of cloud-like swirls and offers our client a durable worktop for modern and functional living.
Bringing you Neff’s latest design, to this country kitchen in its own housing. Our client wanted something new and enticing to add to their kitchen design and opted for the new colourway, Graphite-Grey by Neff. The brief was to choose appliances that would be the latest trend but also a convenient way of cooking and of course looked good!
This separate piece of furniture is simply wonderful. One above the other is the Neff Microwave, a Neff Slide & Hide Single Oven and a Neff Warming Drawer. What’s nice about this design is the piece of furniture between the oven and the warming drawer. So beautiful!
Some other features of this area are an overhead cabinet, full-height pull-out pantry and tongue and groove end panels. Behind this also sits a bespoke scalloped wine rack.
Stunning in style and symmetry, the chimney and mantle shelf beautifully frame the place where the culinary action happens. This is where you find the Neff Flex Induction Hob and a Westin Prime Extractor.
Although the kitchen has been designed to suit a country vibe, it has a wonderful array of modern features including a Quooker Flex tap in a chrome finish – a handy, flexible pull-out hose, that dispenses 100°C boiling, hot and cold water.
Completing the sink area is a Shaws of Darwen Bradshaw sink, under-mounted beneath the countertop for a more modern look.
This part of the kitchen links to the outdoors through traditional-style windows, allowing fresh air to flow throughout the space. The natural daylight that will be seen in this gorgeous room will see subtle shadows shifting across each area of the kitchen, highlighting beautiful handcrafted details.
One of the stand-out features in this country home is the breakfast pantry. This essential part of a bespoke shaker is how it’s the ideal place to keep the items you need close to hand and your work surfaces and tabletops clutter-free. Beautifully crafted bi-fold doors reveal a warm, oak-finished interior with storage options for the coffee machine, toaster and many sentimental pieces. All the family’s breakfast staples are included and a large work surface space for prepping the most important meal of the day.

Touches of other British-made features include Perrin & Rowe Contoured Knob and Shell handles. Each one is given a modern finish in chrome, which blends with the mixer-style tap.
