What do we all think about when it comes to the dining table? How can this be added to the open-plan space? What do we use it for? The dining table is an integral part of our daily life, where we can work, eat, read and socialise with our friends and family.
Dining tables come in all shapes, sizes and materials, so there’s a lot to contemplate when choosing the perfect one for you and your home. Research beforehand, flicking through magazines or scrolling on feeds to find your perfect one.
Are you lucky enough to have an open-plan space where a dining table can be incorporated? In this blog, we talk about how you can add a dining room to your style and how to get it right.
A balanced look
You want to keep a balanced look throughout where you have a common ground between your table and kitchen design. The colour doesn’t have to be the same, but it should connect to the surrounding space and furniture. Opt for the tabletop to be the same material as the worktops, or tie it in with the colour of the cabinetry handles.
If your style is more of a neutral one, the possibilities are endless when it comes to designing your dining table. Are you brave and bold enough to go with a darker table? or would you prefer to keep it neutral with the rest of the design?
The choice is yours, just remember to tie in the design with the rest of your space.
Match your style
What’s the overall style of your kitchen space? Are you recreating a cosy farmhouse feel or a sleek and modern look with industrial elements? Once you know your overall style this will then help you decide in terms of your table material and the type of legs.
The legs of a table create different looks.
The perfect size and shape
Before you purchase your new dining table, look at your space and think about where it’s going to be placed. This will help you decide how big the table is going to be as well as the shape and style. You could opt for a banquette and bespoke handmade table in the corner of the space or a bespoke pedestal that sits on the island end.
A general statement is that rectangular tables work in larger rooms. It doesn’t mean they don’t work in smaller spaces, because you could add a fitted booth.
Rounded tables offer you the best solution for smaller spaces and they also create a more intimate sociable affair to your dining experience.
Another way of adding a table is extending your island, it looks beautiful and is a space-saving solution if you can’t quite add a separate dining table.
Material is important
The material is important as the table isn’t going to be replaced for many years. You want a durable material that will stand the test of time. There are many materials to choose from, how about a marble-style quartz that matches the worktops, for a real bespoke look? This type of style is in huge demand and we can’t see it going away anytime soon.
How about a wooden dining table? Match the tone of the wood to the other wooden elements found in your kitchen scheme. Dark woods bring out a more traditional feel, and lighter woods are perfect for a farmhouse look.
