We wanted to put together some ideas to give you a little inspiration on how you can create your own mini version of your dream kitchen. The space doesn’t have to be huge, you can still make it just as beautiful whatever the size. When it comes down to thinking about your dream kitchen, do you picture a big open plan space? An island for entertaining? For lots of us, this isn’t reality but it doesn’t mean we can’t have things from our kitchen wishlist in the space available.
Our experienced designers are pros at making the most out of the available space you have, they have worked on kitchens of all shapes and sizes. Read below to find out some tips that are great for smaller kitchens.
Simple and minimal
You want the design to be simple and minimal, kitchens can feel cramped if there’s a lot going on. Choose lighter hues and cut down on the gadgets.
Utilize every inch
Storage in a kitchen is one of the most important key elements and is particularly vital when you have less space to play with. Utilize every inch of the space, reorganise areas that don’t work well and create a storage haven. Integrate the appliances where possible, this can be super useful for creating a clean, sleek look and even allows more room for drawers and cupboards.
Declutter
Consider clever storage solutions like open shelves, spice racks, magnetic knife strips, and rails to hang utensils and pots and pans. Because our furniture is completely bespoke you can have special slots made for chopping boards and serving trays, which can be neatly slid away when not in use, but can also make a focal point with the space.
It’s not just the kitchen to think about
What do you need? What do you want? You need to prioritise the things that you need, rather than thinking about what you want. When you’re designing for a small space, sometimes it just isn’t possible to have everything you want. Do you have a separate room that the washing machine can go in? Can you opt for a freestanding dresser in the dining/living space for all your plates and bowls to give you extra space in the kitchen? Maybe sacrifice a wine cooler for a slim integrated dishwasher?
Choose a durable and long-lasting worktop
The worktops in a smaller kitchen will take much more of a beating than those in a larger space. By choosing a practical and durable worktop, you need it to last. How about opting for a marble-style quartz, that gives the characteristics of a sleek marble look but without the hassle of looking after it.
Consider shelves
If you keep everything to a low-level, you will make the space feel bigger and more open. Shelves are handy creating a feeling of light and space. Paint the shelves in the same colour to seemingly disappear into the background, or paint them in a contrasting colour to make them stand out. Narrow shelves can make a big difference in a small kitchen.
