When we think about a mirror we generally think of it being in the bathroom or bedroom, but if you use it within a kitchen design it becomes a great idea. You might wonder why? Well, it may not be the accessory that you immediately think of when it comes to the kitchen, but if you add this unusual decorative item it can instantly add height and size to the hub of the home.
A mirror in the kitchen oozes style and creates an illusion in a smaller space. Budgets sometimes can be a little tight when finding something that will make an impact. Add a mirror to deliver an unexpected addition, a very much deserved glamourous feel and is cheaper than most other things.
Place the mirror on an empty wall to divide the main kitchen area from adjacent rooms, it will give an illusion to anyone who enters that the kitchen extends into other areas of the home. Reflect a line of pendants across the mirror and a lovely vase of Spring flowers, which will hit the right note on so many levels.
Our client below in the Mapesbury project added a long and wide mirror to an empty wall, that has an antique finish to match the chrome fixtures and fittings. It was added to the dining room area in this open-plan space allowing some of our handmade kitchen furniture to be reflected in. Beautiful chandeliers suspend either side of the room with one reflecting in the mirror to add that instant appeal.
The ultimate illusion was produced in this kitchen design in Mapesbury.
If you have a small kitchen, a single mirror to the entrance can create a feeling of openness that reflects other features such as a chandelier or the bespoke handmade cabinetry that is simply beautiful.
If you have panelled walls you can add mirrors to them to give a look of expanding space. Also, add them to the doors of your cabinets, it gives character to the room as well as lights up the back of the room.
A kitchen is a place where most of our time is spent, so make it look attractive with the simplest of things by adding a mirror to a shelf. The sink is normally situated underneath a window but if this is not possible, then add a mirror above the sink to give an instant touch of light as well as a classy approach.
A tempered glass mirror looks delightful behind the hob as a splashback. It certainly makes a focal point in the kitchen and adds a glamorous, vintage charm. They create an illusion of expanding space and reflect the glistening lights that bounce around.
