In the past few years, we have stayed at home much more often with our families, enjoying quality time as well as trying to stop the spread of the global pandemic – COVID-19. Staying in is also the new going out in recent times and what better way to do this than with a handmade bar / drinks dressers in the comfort of your own home.
At The Handmade Kitchen Company, we love designing and building unique features to the home and we are super excited to show you the home bar! Because they are truly bespoke they can be hand-painted in the colour of your choice, sized to the room and feature the perfect storage for all those glistening glasses, barware and alcoholic beverages.
Our project in Bishop’s Stortford features an impressive bar in the Grade II listed property. Its design is completed with curved edges, glass shelves, glass-fronted cabinets, a mirrored back and purple accent lighting to match the home furnishings and light up those beautiful crystal glasses.
The choice of colour is yours
The furniture is hand-painted in the colour of your choice and is painted on-site once the units have been built. The finish is a beautiful brush-on that follows the wood grain perfectly while protecting the wood beneath it. We use quality paints from respectable paint companies such as Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Dulux, Crown, Sandersons and Paint & Paper Library.
Choose a colour to make a statement or blend it in with the other kitchen units.
The bar in the Bishop’s Stortford project has been hand-painted in Dove Tale by Farrow & Ball which is a warm grey with lilac undertones creating a soft and inviting feel to the hub of the home.
The bar sits adjacent to the island where a deep aubergine colour is hand-painted onto the frame and cabinets making a feature in the hub of the home – ‘Brinjal’ by Farrow & Ball. This area has also been used to house a Sub-Zero wine cooler and a bespoke handmade engraved serving tray that perfectly slots in amongst the units. The most perfect additions to the bar.
Choose the perfect worktop
The choice is yours when it comes to the worktop. There are many materials that you can choose from, for example, Quartz, Granite and Solid Wood.
Quartz is non-porous, scratch and stain-resistant and extremely hardwearing making them easy to maintain. There are also lots of styles and colours available to suit your kitchen and home’s design.
Granite is naturally different and a traditional style of the worktop. The material is carved from the rock faces of quarries around the world. Like quartz, there are many styles and colours available.
Solid wood is popular with clients looking to add wooden elements to their kitchen. They are attractive to look at and are very functional. Wood is a soft, textured surface with a warm feel and helps to create a family-friendly environment.
Our client in Bishop’s Stortford opted for a quartz called Bianca Eclipsia. This was used on their worktops throughout the kitchen and flowed onto the bar too. It’s an off-white to white-grey quartzite with small and big grey veins varying in both pattern and shade of colour. It’s an absolutely beautiful colour and style complementing the historic features that are featured in this home.
Add the perfect storage
Storage is one of the main features of a handmade kitchen and an important discussion to be had with the kitchen designer. Our team will design storage solutions to suit your requirements, whether it’s drawers, doors, high mounted long-term storage, corner cupboards or something else.
A handmade bar can consist of any storage solution you require and desire.
The wonderful bar in Bishop’s Stortford offers many storage solutions. Solid curved corner cabinets fill the bottom, with two drawers and two frontal kitchen cupboards laying in the middle all with a soft close. On top of the worktop sits two glass curved cabinets sitting either side with glass open-shelving set in the middle in front of an antique glass splashback.
Finishing touches
When it comes to choosing the finishing touches kitchen handles are as individual as you are, they never completely go out of fashion and when combining the different styles and materials, they can give you a beautiful and individual look.
The handles and knobs chosen are from the ‘Merrick’ collection by Armac Martin. This collection is machined from solid brass and is traditional in appearance with a reeded design, perfect to fit within the period features of this home.
The cornices, pelmets and plinths on the bar are all curved to suit the characteristics of this Grade II listed property. The cornices are a traditional style and the plinths are an inset design.
We pride ourselves on giving the best service possible as well as creating unique features to the home. Are you thinking of adding a homemade bar to your modern kitchen? Contact us today – we look forward to hearing from you.
