Taking our craftsmanship and stunning kitchen design to the southeast of England, another one of our handmade kitchens is found in Hutton, Brentwood – a spectacular design that has transformed this family home into something truly special!
Our clients took on an awe-inspiring challenge of breathing new life into this property gem, embarking on a restoration project that would soon include a stunning HMK classic English kitchen at its heart.
The brief was clear throughout the design consultation, the clients wanted to craft a Classic English kitchen that harmoniously blended traditional craftsmanship with modernity – this is our Classic Shaker with an upgraded island in our beautiful Mapesbury handleless design. A gorgeous space where function was paramount yet still felt warm, welcoming and just as charming as its surroundings.
Upon discovering our Bridger’s Barn showroom, this lovely couple was impressed with the designs and keen eye for detail shown by our designers and knew they had found the perfect partner to bring their dream kitchen to life.
Our lovely clients carefully selected the paint colours and opted for a two-tone colour combination on their handmade cabinets. The colours are 221 Basalt and 236 Flint, both by Little Greene.
- 221 Basalt was hand-painted onto the island and pedestal table. Basalt is a timeless blue-black. It’s easier on the eye than a pure, jet black paint and looks fabulous when the natural light hits it and draws out its charismatic blue undertones.
- 236 Flint was hand-painted onto the rest of the kitchen and additional cabinetry. Flint is a sophisticated warm white and looks aesthetically pleasing combined with many colours as it is purely mineral based.
Meticulously planning every detail of each and every appliance, we produced a practical kitchen layout that was best suited for our client and the space provided. We bought design freedom to the home with a comprehensive suite of luxury appliances that complemented this family’s way of life.
Working along the shorter length of the L-shaped layout is the Fisher & Paykel Dual Fuel Range Cooker in a 90cm width. This adds to the cooking setup allowing our client to enjoy the theatre of cooking.
Other appliances include a Liebherr full-height fridge and separate freezer, and appliances from Fisher and Paykel including a full-height wine cooler, a microwave and a coffee maker creating a bank and dish drawers (dishwasher) to the left of the sink.
Providing this kitchen with a convenient way to fill large pots and pans with water directly in the cooking area is the Perrin & Rowe Pot Filler in Aged Brass. This wonderful feature is placed elegantly on the full-height quartz (Carrara Misterio) splashback located behind the range cooker.
No classic English kitchen is complete without a Shaws of Darwen sink. Positioned perfectly beneath the window, this iconic handcrafted fireclay sink symbolises enduring quality and a nod to the shaker kitchen’s heritage. What makes this sink area extra special and adds to the kitchen’s charm is the Perrin & Rowe Aquitaine mixer tap and soap dispenser, both in aged brass.
Our client is a massive tea lover so on her wish list was a tea station, Quooker tap and drawers below filled with different teas from around the world.
So, adding to the practicality of the kitchen on the same run of the L-shape, we designed a Quooker Pro3 Classic Nordic round in stainless steel with a drip tray creating this cute tea station that our client dreamed of. A stunning cabinet above is suspended on bespoke corbels and soon became the home for mugs and other drink essentials to make this area practical and handy.
Taking our attention to the special island design in our Mapesbury cabinetry, this kitchen island adorns the space giving us the best of both worlds, as the modern style is carefully thought out without compromising the classic look.
On the end of the island, we handcrafted a turned pedestal table to create a beautiful social gathering spot.
Bringing a light-coloured natural stone to the design that looks extremely subtle yet exquisite is the Oregon Falls Quartzite with Ogee edge. Our friends over at Sharpstone vein matched the pedestal table to the main island! Absolutely insane and beautiful!
The rest of the kitchen is completed with Carrara Misterio with a standard double bevel edge.
Stand-out features and adding to the luxury kitchen space are the ultimate drinks dresser and the standalone dresser for our client’s favourite china.
The drinks dresser is complete with an under-counter integrated fridge, Oregon Falls Quartzite with Ogee edge, glazed glass-fronted cabinets and open shelving and the standalone dresser sits proud in the corner with three soft close drawers and glass-fronted cabinets.
Keeping in with the British design and flair of this kitchen design we added Perrin and Rowe Shell Handles and Contoured Knobs – all in aged brass to match the other fixtures and fittings.
The shell handles allow for an easier pull with the cup-style design and the contoured knob is of a classic style, further enhanced with beehive detailing.
We also thoughtfully designed an ancillary space that is just off the main kitchen area. This utility room come boot room that accommodates all the family’s everyday functions with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry that stores cleaning products, laundry baskets and more, all concealed behind beautifully crafted shaker-style doors.
The large white appliance is strategically placed beneath a beautiful quartz known as Carrara Misterio with a standard double bevel edge, while the Shaws French Farmhouse Ceramic single bowl exudes charm and practicality.
This room beautifully coexists with the kitchen, functioning as the engine room of the home and is the place to go when coming back from a long walk so you don’t have to walk your muddy shoes through the house.
The space we had to work with at this project was absolutely breathtaking. This room incorporates all of our top most wished-for items, such as a kitchen island, coffee station, drinks dresser, range cooker and pantries, this space has everything and it was a dream to design!
