U-shaped kitchens are probably the most practical of layouts, they are efficient and suit all sized rooms. The design combines practicality with aesthetics that’s perfect for those who have a passion for cooking and spending time in. The layout promotes all crucial areas of the kitchen, making it easy to glide from one side to another while creating the maximum amount of worktop and storage space.
The u-shaped layout can be made up of three walls or three sides in the shape of a ‘U’. The worktops may also be uninterrupted with three successive sides allowing you to incorporate corner storage and flawless design.
This type of layout is perfect for when you are not sure what layout you want to create in your hub of the home. It also allows for the ‘kitchen triangle’ to naturally fit, where your fridge, cooker/hob and sink are at the three points.
Small and narrow kitchens can make the u-shaped design work and larger square rectangle kitchens have flexibility where it can be installed to one part of the kitchen, leaving space for a dining area or central island.
U-Shaped Kitchen Projects
Classic Shaker – Matching Tye
Here sits an 1800 property where we have helped to create the owner’s dream kitchen with our classic shaker style. The available space was turned into a U-shaped layout with one side acting as a large workable space, and the opposite side housing luxury appliances and the perfect sink area. The bottom of the U-shape proudly sits a beautiful crisp white AGA, which brings a loving design to the kitchen as well as warmth in those winter months and a cooking experience like no other. Our client has always wanted an AGA and this was their perfect opportunity.
A quartz worktop known as Carrara flows wonderfully around the three sides providing a hardware surface for many years to come and a style that brings the whole of the aesthetics together.
The cabinets have been hand-painted in Cornforth White by Farrow & Ball and our in-frame design featuring the beaded front. A perfect complement to this historic property.
Classic Shaker – Epping
The Epping property is the perfect kitchen for our client who is a professional chef. Sub-Zero Wolf appliances were selected and designed into the U-shaped layout and to form the perfect ‘kitchen triangle’. Silestone Yukon Blanco quartz worktops are added to complement the Cornforth White classic shaker furniture with a Victorian bead, allowing the different metallic materials to stand out.
One side of the ‘U’ is where the 36″ Sub Zero fridge/freezer lies with the Wolf Dual Fuel Range Cooker sitting opposite. The bottom of the ‘U’ is the perfect sink area featuring a Shaws sink and Perrin & Rowe taps. This allows our client to glide easily from one side to another with adequate space, soaking up the natural light.
Classic Shaker – Stansted Mountfitchet
We used all the available space in this hub of the home and created the perfect U-shaped layout. A quartz worktop flows around the uninterrupted sides giving a natural appearance to this light and airy space. It’s been the perfect way to add corner storage and there was even room in the middle for a sleek island finished with bar stools.
One side house the cooking appliances and the other the cold storage with a Franke sink met in the middle with a Quooker boiling tap.
Traditional Shaker – Chelmsford
This traditional shaker style kitchen we designed and created in Chelmsford suits this home in the country. Our client wanted it to create something more traditional with blends of a modern touch. Tongue and groove doors with forged hinges and handles are a great example of the traditional style.
The space is made up of lots of natural light and a great U-shaped layout filling all areas and providing our client with adequate storage solutions. A central island has been built in the middle with one of the legs of the ‘U’ creating the perfect spot for the furry friend. It’s always great to add a comfy spot for the pet in the kitchen where you spend lots of time in.
