We were contacted by Shaws of Darwen for our SW18 project to be featured on their website talking all things sinks! They were interested in the story behind the project and of course, loved the idea of a perfectly positioned Shaws sink. This was a project that was on a supply-only basis and throughout the height of the pandemic – it was a challenge, to say the least, but it has been executed beautifully by us, the builder and the client!
Our SW18 project is found in an affluent residential area of London and is home to the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. The client was looking for a truly bespoke kitchen but didn’t want a traditional detail but more of a minimalist step detail to the centre of the frame. This is a truly unique style of shaker that we’ve designed and manufactured and we have loved helping bring our client’s vision to reality.
Now it’s time to show it off!
“The whole kitchen is a timeless blend of Shaker sensibility and elegant Victorian practicality. Everything about it says luxury, but it isn’t excessive or extravagant. It is a highly tasteful recreation of the charming classic family kitchens of years gone by.” – Shaws of Darwen.
As previously mentioned the project was dealt with during the global pandemic when face-to-face meetings were prohibited and most suppliers had very long lead times. Fortunately for us, this meant that we had more time to refine the design and achieve the perfect balance between Classic Shaker and modern contemporary living. We liaised with the client and builder to get the design, measurements and space just right.
When entering this particular kitchen you can’t help but be impressed by the huge amount of natural light that’s achieved by the large triple-panel skylight and ceiling-high sliding doors. The huge amounts of natural light show off the beautiful craftsmanship we’ve achieved on these cabinets.
Shaws is our preferred supplier for sinks – simply because the quality is exceptional. We love Shaws and so do our clients, so we opted for a sink that was practical for washing up large pans in this busy family home.
Working with the space our design included a shorter run which is where the Shaws Inset 800 sink is perfectly positioned, integrated beneath the bold marble work surface. A full-height splashback of the marble was the preferred option from our client, which we believe brings the whole space together and creates a stunning masterpiece.
Choosing an inset sink makes the whole area contemporary, clean and streamlined, and doesn’t break up the dark tones of the cabinetry and wood.
To add to the quality of the sink, a Perrin & Rowe Polaris 3-in-1 Instant Hot Water Tap with Rinse and matching traditional deck-mounted soap dispenser, both in Aged Brass sit proudly on the sink run. We believe the aged brass finish and the natural patterning of the marble work wonderfully with the deep period green tone ‘Studio Green’ by Farrow & Ball.
Inset and undermount sinks from Shaws are beautiful and practical. Each one is elegant, handcrafted and can work with any solid work surface such as granite, marble, quartz or solid wood.
