Starting on a new project and to get an idea of costs, a dimensional room plan will need to be drawn up, just a simple hand-drawn plan is great. You want it to be a fun time more than a scary thing. Once everything is down on that piece of paper, you will see all the possibilities and things will start to get very exciting.
Do you have architectural plans? That’s awesome because the work has been done for you, just remember to send the original PDF or a version that has not been altered in any way.
Start with the full perimeter
Consider the full space when designing a kitchen. Will the space be very open? Will you add a dining table? Will you design it in a way where there’s lots of natural light? The more information we have from you, the better the design will be. Our design team will be able to draw up plans from different angles to give you a real feel of how your handmade kitchen will look. Try and forget your current layout, this is important as there could be an alternative layout that works so much better, becoming clear when you see the space on paper.
Include the heights of the ceilings
Looking at the height of the ceiling is key in making the furniture fit in perfectly, we can design bespoke floor-to-ceiling cabinets that suit your space. Sometimes ceilings can be angled so there could be a maximum and minimum height in some areas, we can accommodate for this. If your property includes exposed wooden beams, don’t forget to tell us, as we will need to include the beam height.
Remember about the doors and windows
We need to know about any doors and windows in your space, their positioning on the walls and the width of each. Include the distance of the wall on either side of the doors and windows so we know where they are in the room. Include the window heights too.
Let us know where the gas, water and electrics are
Are they in a fixed location and unable to be moved? We need to know exactly which walls they are limited to so that your sink and cooker can be designed in the right place. If you have pictures of these areas, send them along with your plans.
Obstacles?
There are so many fantastic features we come across when designing kitchens, from fireplaces, old fashioned chimney breasts, serving hatches and original built-in cupboards. They are beautiful, but unfortunately can obstruct where the furniture will go in the new design, so make sure you include these in your plans. Boiler cupboards and pipes that can’t be moved are other things that we need to know about.
Accuracy but don’t stress
Before making your furniture, the dimensions of the room will be checked thoroughly and checked a few times, so don’t stress too much. Have lots of fun and design the dream kitchen you have always wanted. It’s a super exciting time!
